Best Walking Trails Near Delray Beach2019-06-10T05:04:15+00:00

Some say that Delray Beach is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. People travel from all over the world to come here to see our town and beaches. But did you know we actually have a wealth of walking trails right here in Delray? Below are our top picks, please forgive us if a few of these are actually in Boca or Boynton but we promise they are close by.

A few tips for Florida hikers:

  • bring water – pretty much mandatory, even if you are just going out for “just a short walk”
  • let someone know where you are going, chances are you won’t get eaten by an alligator but accidents do happen
  • apply sun screen – even with the shade provided by some of these trees, you are going to need it
  • organic bug spray – use your favorite concoction
  • bring your camera
  • binoculars for birds

Here are our favorite trails in / near Delray Beach:

Green Cay

Address: 12800 Hagen Ranch Rd, Boynton Beach, FL 33437

Green Cay is an approximately 2 mile “moderately trafficked loop” located inside Green Cay Nature Center. It has trail maps and beautiful flowers and wildlife. It is good for all skill levels and has a beautiful man made boardwalk that allows you to walk deep into the everglades.

Wakodahatchee

13270 Jog Road Delray Beach, FL 33446

Wakodahatchee, which I pronounce “Wack-o-duh-hatchey” is a really cool trail in West Delray that has an approximately 1 mile boardwalk. You will see tons of wildlife small and large, and has tons of signs and gazebos throughout the trail. You’ll see lots of “birding” activities as well as a lot of different flowers and plants depending on the time of year.

Morikami Japanese Garden

4000 Morikami Park Rd, Delray Beach, FL 33446

A lot going on here, so popular you can see signs from I95 or the Turnpike. Without a doubt the most beautiful trail in all of Delray Beach, possibly Palm Beach County and Beyond.

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center

1801 N Ocean Blvd, Boca Raton, FL 33432

My personal favorite. It is open from 7am to dusk. Always a lot of sea turtle conservationists around, and lots of activities. Since its on A1A it is right near the beach so after you are done at Gumbo Limbo you can take a dip in the ocean, just watch out for seat turtle nests!

Arthur Marshall Trail

10216 Lee Rd, Boynton Beach, FL 33472

I personally haven’t visited this trail before, so I can’t comment on it. I think there is an entrance fee, but there is a lot going on out here. Similar to Green Cay / Wakodahatchee I believe.

Atlantic Park 441 and Atlantic (West Regional)

Just west of Atlantic & 441 on W. Atlantic

There are so many things to do out here. A huge model airplane area, remote control car track, and some of the best trails in South Florida. It even has hills! Can you believe it? There are pavilions and grills so it is a great place to have a picnic, fly a kite, ride your mountain bike and take a walk. I’m not technically sure what the name of this park is, but I believe it is called “West Regional.”

El Rio Trail

Congress Ave. and Glades Road/FL 808 (Boca Raton)

I don’t think this is technically a trail, more of a walking path since it is on asphalt. It is almost 5 miles long and is paved. Great option for the disabled or those that don’t want to ride bikes on the dirt. Great for roller skating if people still do that.

Delray Oaks

2021 SW 29th St, Delray Beach, FL 33445

Palm Beach County Gov’s website describes this as, “Hike the trails to explore Florida’s rare xeric hammock ecosystem Open Sunrise to Sunset, 365 Days a Year.” I don’t know what this means, I’ve been here a few times and have not seen hammocks, but it is a beautiful walk. Huge canopy of oak trees (where the trail gets its name) and tons of beautiful plants. Only con to this trail is it is a very short loop.

Pondhawk Natural Area

NW, 1501 Spanish River Blvd, Boca Raton, FL 33431

Located near Military and Spanish River, this 2.5 mile trail is a beautiful hike. No pets and no bikes, be careful some areas are quite “marshy” and almost seems as though there is no trail at one point. Very close to Spanish River Public Library, after your hike you can stop by for a coffee.

The Beach

Take a walk on the beach! The beach is always a great place to walk, especially in the hard sand in your bare feet 🙂

We’ve officially launched the beta version of our Map of Delray Beach’s neighborhoods. Please forgive us, as this is a work in progress. If you have any suggestions or comments please feel free to contact us using our contact page.

Click on any area for details about the neighborhood.

We are looking for some talented map makers out there who would like to volunteer to get our boundaries looking perfect. Right now we did our best to hand draw these boundaries but would like to get them better. It is really tough having to use old map data so anyone with knowledge of Delray Beach would be great!

We are also still looking for photos of Delray Beach! If you’d like to be featured on our site or on this interactive map, please send us your photos and we will add them to our site.

Happy Memorial Day From Delray Biz2019-05-27T06:48:06+00:00
  • delray beach memorial day 2019

Wishing everyone in Delray Beach and beyond a Happy Memorial Day. This year, while we BBQ in our back yards and enjoy the beautiful beaches we have let us all remember the fallen soldiers that died fighting for our freedom. There was a time in this world when our freedom was truly at risk of being taken away from us, without those brave individuals we may not be here. So please enjoy this holiday weekend, when you see a military veteran especially our senior veterans be sure to thank them for their service!

Happy Memorial Day!

From all of us here at DelrayBiz.com

Featured Company: Shot in the Dark2019-05-27T06:49:44+00:00

Each month we feature a different business here in Delray Beach. This month we are thrilled to feature Shot in the Dark – Delray Beach’s premiere light painting and photography company.

Light painting is a really cool form of photography that uses “light” to “paint” really cool designs in the background of a subject in a photo. The company is run by 2 veteran photographers (David Lustrup and Mark Thompson), and they are located in the heart of Delray Beach. In addition to their elite photography skills, they are also amazing video editors and graphic designers.

Can you believe this photo was taken using just a camera and a source of light?

If you’d like to learn more, check out their website or view their local listing page.

What is the SofA District of Delray Beach?2019-05-27T05:06:11+00:00

The what district? When I heard on Twitter recently about the #SofA district of Delray Beach I scratched my head a bit…I’ve been living here for near 20 years and never heard of it.

To keep it simple: SofA stands for: South of Atlantic Ave

It is basically that neighborhood near iPic or for you old school Delray folks where the old Green Owl and old Library used to be 🙂

There are also the SofA apartments, which I’ve known about for a while but never knew it stood for “south of Atlantic”

We live and learn.

April 2019 Favorite Delray Restaurants2019-04-12T06:42:39+00:00

Our last post got a lot of buzz so we thought we’d compile a more recent list:

(in no particular order)

  1. Park Tavern – can you say pretzel bread? Possibly one of the best burgers on the ave
  2. Deck 84 – one of the only restaurants on the water, and one of the only ones in Delray you can dock your boat next to
  3. Johnnie Brown’s – local favorite, great bar food and always a spectacle of local performers and artists including drunk bikers dancing all night
  4. Cut 432 – best upscale steak joint in town
  5. The Grove – awesome atmosphere, even better menu
  6. El Camino – just off the ave, great food
  7. Che!!! (that’s 3 exclamation points) one of the only Argentinian restaurants on the ave, across the water from Deck 84. Beautiful atmosphere
  8. Sundy House – without a doubt the coolest atmosphere inside and out, amazing menu
  9. Tramonti – some may say the best upscale Italian in all of South Florida
  10. Jimmy’s Bistro – new to our list, just off Atlantic on Swinton, menu is on a giant chalkboard, quaint atmosphere

Angry your favorite restaurant didn’t make our top 10? Let us know!

Delray Beach Photos2019-06-10T05:53:30+00:00

Earlier this year, we made a call for Delray Beach Photographers for our website. We needed some nice stock images for our newly designed website, and didn’t want to use the “same old, same old.” Lucky for us, our friend Brian Cattelle reached out to us and generously donated a myriad of images to use on our site. We are so thrilled with these images and can’t wait to see what everyone thinks!

Top Restaurants in Delray Beach2017-07-12T20:57:03+00:00

Each month, we do a roundup to feature what we consider to be the “best of the best” in different categories throughout Delray Beach. Some of these businesses might be brand new, others are established. So let’s get right down to it, here are what we consider to be the top restaurants in Delray Beach as of July 2017.

Note: all of these restaurants we’ve personally tested.

10. Park Tavern $– Centrally located and plenty of places to park, this “brick walled American tavern” has patio seating, a large bar inside and spacious booths. They have some amazing burgers and are always running really amazing happy hour deals. Also a lot of craft beers and wine.

9. 32 East$$$ – A bit more on the pricey side, but well worth it. Amazing wine selection and a menu that changes on a regular basis to reflect the current seasons. A relaxed atmosphere with some patio seating right on Atlantic Ave, this restaurant is one that shouldn’t be missed.

8. Sazio$$ – A cozy place right on Atlantic Ave that is the favorite of many locals. Known for their Italian options, salads, pizzas, and drinks. It has patio seating right on Atlantic Ave and usually quick service.

7. Deck 84$$ – One of 2 (as far as we recall) restaurants in Delray Beach located right on the intercoastal. Dock your boat right outside or walk from Atlantic Ave. It has some great menu options, a huge covered patio, seating on the intercoastal, and indoor seating as well. Oh, and the food is really good also.

6. DaDa$$ –Yes, this is the restaurant in Delray Beach that looks like a house. In fact it used to be. It is located in the “historic district” of Delray right on Swinton next to Atlantic Ave. Try the meatloaf, our personal favorite or grab a drink from the bar, lots of craft beers and other cocktail selections.

5. The Grove$$ – American restaurant with patio in back, this is a newer restaurant in Delray quickly becoming a town favorite.

4. Brule Bistro or simple “Brule”$$ – pronounced “Broo-Lay” this local town favorite converted from a ala carte style to a full blown restaurant. Great wine options and always a great crowd.

3. Tramonti – $$$ – If you are looking for an upscale Italian NYC crowd, Tramonti is the way to go. Everything on the menu is exquisite and cooked to perfection every time. Always a crowd spilling out to the pavement waiting to be seated.

2. Lemongrass – $$ –  Another local favorite this traditional Asian restaurant always has fresh fish, great raw options, amazing Thai dishes and some delicious Saki. Stop by for a quick lunch or an intimate dinner.

1. Max’s Harvest – $$ – locally sourced food with tons of organic options. Sit on the patio out back, or intimite seating inside with a few tables out front. This menu changes options so check back often for menu updates.

For SEO’s2019-04-12T06:15:24+00:00

This post is intended for SEO’s or website owners:

If you are an SEO or are just a DIY type of person that is in charge of your website, then you already know that adding a geographically relevant link to your website is one of the best things you can do to get yourself ranked on Google.

Simply put, by signing up for a listing through Delray Beach Business Directory, you not only get yourself a link to your website but a full SEO citation as well! If you take the time to optimize your listing, fill out the description and title, pick the right category, and add images your odds increase even more!

A few more tips on directory listings:

Don’t automate the process – you can spend a few dollars and buy hundreds of directory listings, but Google doesn’t like that. Take the time to sign up one at a time, and only pick the good ones.

Extra points for geographically relevant links – our directory is catered towards Delray Beach businesses, so if your company is in Delray, you’ll get extra “SEO points” for signing up with us.

Use lots of detail – the more the better. Write a unique description, and use unique photos.

In the end, getting a listing from our website probably won’t get you ranked #1 on Google, but it will definitely help you get 1 step closer!
